Abstract

One group, in 6 male and 4female undergoing the general anesthesia, naloxone(0.8mg) was bolus injected at immediate postoperative period.
The respiratory rate, tidal volume, minute ventilation and arterial b1ood gases were measured at 15 minute after naloxone on the ventilation.
The ingection of naloxone resulted in following changes ;
1. Respiratory rate was significantly decreased(P<0.01).
2. Arterial carbon dioxide tension was decreased remarkably.
The remarkable decrease of respiratory rate and slightly increase minute ventilation following naloxone injection was considered to decrease arterial carbon dioxide tension significantly.
In the study, it is concluded that the administration of naloxone mar be one of the ways to improve the postoperative ventilating impairment often complicated by hypoxemia.
